Mountain Construction - Phase 2

The mountain is portable because I mounted on a separate 3/4" plywood base. The Mountain is constructed with 1 x 1 strips of pine wood for the main supports and chicken wire for the mountain shape. I then placed newspaper over the chicken wire for more support and used Woodland Scenics Plaster Cloth to cover that. I then used Woodland Scenics Lightweight Hydrocal and various Woodland Scenics Rock Molds to create the outcroppings of rock. I painted the entire mountain with Woodland Scenics Earth Color Liquid Pigment Earth brown. The rock molds are attached with drywall puddy. The Tunnel Portals are from MTH.

Using a mixture of Woodland Scenics Earth Color Liquid Pigment colors (Yellow Ocher, Raw Umber and a deluded 3 to 1 Slate gray) I painted the rock outcroppings and the inside of the mountain is painted black.

I then used Woodland Scenics Spray Scenic Cement to spray a light coat for the foliage to stick to. I then used Woodland Scenics Turf Coast, mixing three different colors (light green, dark green and burnt grass), Woodland Scenics Clump Foliage and Lichen to apply to the areas without the rock outcroppings to provide the realistic look. The rocks next to the tunnel faces and made from waded up newspaper and then covered with Plaster Cloth.

I then continued to apply different trees (Pine tress of assorted sizes and a Fall mixture) and rock features as well as purter animals (Buck, Deer, Mountain Lion and Black Bear) to complete the realistic effect.

The water and water fall effect was created with four different colors (navy blue, light blue, aqua green and white). I used a piece of Plaster Cloth to create the water fall. I then applied Woodland Scenics E-Z Water (pellet form) to the stream and water fall.
